A smile is a true expression of inner beauty and joy reflecting confidence in connecting with others. It is a privilege to contribute to our patients’ lives by giving them the gift of an exquisite smile. I am passionate about providing the highest caliber orthodontic care with gentleness and integrity. And, it is my pleasure to be in a position of service to others, enhancing both their health and their beauty.
A Forest Hills, NY native, Golden’s Bridge has been my home for 20 years. I have two extraordinary daughters, one in high school, the other finishing college. I also have a yellow lab, Jazzy. I am passionate about spending time with family and friends and playing music. I enjoy photography, yoga, hiking and exercising.
Life never stops teaching. Be sure you never stop learning.
State-of-the art practices are essential to successful orthodontic treatment. Each year, my staff and I participate in continuing education courses both domestically and abroad to ensure that Schechtman Orthodontic patients benefit from the most advanced orthodontic technology. I also participate in SureSmile orthodontic best practices online forums where challenging cases are presented and discussed with peers for a shared learning experience.
I am a member of the following accredited organizations:
“Treatment Planning for Orthodontic-Restorative Cases with SureSmile® Technology” was published in the nationally distributed publication, Journal of Clinical Orthodontics (JCO).
His other article “A Response Driven Treatment Plan: Navigating a Difficult Case Without a Road Map” was also published in OrthoTown magazine.
Dr. Schechtman is also a contributing blogger to The Huffington Post’s Healthy Living section.
I am especially proud that I am a board certified orthodontist, also known as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, who agrees to voluntarily be evaluated by his/her peers according to knowledge and clinical skills. Becoming board certified signifies the orthodontist’s pursuit of continued proficiency and excellence in orthodontics.
The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO), founded in 1929, is the oldest and most prestigious specialty board in dentistry. The ABO’s aim is to “elevate the standards of the practice of orthodontia, to familiarize the public with its aim and ideals, and to protect the public against irresponsible and unqualified practitioners.”
The Board upholds four main objectives supported by its mission:
In order to become board certified, an orthodontist has to have passed a rigorous set of written and clinical examinations, as well as a comprehensive review of their credentials. The initial process of becoming board certified can take anywhere from five to ten years. Once certified, the orthodontist must become re-certified every ten years in order to maintain board certified status.
Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?
— Dr. Martin Luther King
Schechtman Orthodontics was the first orthodontics practice in Westchester County to offer free, life-changing orthodontic care to children from low-income families through Smiles Change Lives, a national charity. We continue to provide care to patients from Smiles Change Lives as we believe that all children should have the confidence that comes with a beautiful smile. Schechtman Orthodontics also participates in Support Connection, a breast cancer support group; Jeans for Teens, a charity to provide clothing for underprivileged teens; and the Yorktown Food Pantry collections for needy local families. Most important, we encourage and support our patients who participate in community service activities.
SCHECHTMAN ORTHODONTICS PAYS IT FORWARD
Every month, Dr S selects one of his patient’s community service projects to support. The selected project is spotlighted in Schechtman Orthodontic’s reception area to increase donations of products being collected for your child’s project. Selected patient projects also will be highlighted in Schechtman Orthodontic’s social media outlets to increase your child’s success:
